No Worries!

I heard a story about a young boy, a passenger on a vessel in the open ocean. The seas were quite rough, and getting rougher. Many of the passengers began to fear the worst. But the boy sat quietly, engulfed in one of his books. Some of the passengers began to notice the boy. Finally, one of the panicked passengers asked the boy, "Aren't you worried?" The boy looked up calmly and said, "No. My Daddy's the Captain."

I can learn a lesson from that boy! Because I look around and see all the troubles in the world, all the things I think I need to worry about or I don't like the direction life is heading. That's when I can start to worry. I want to step in and take control, even if that control is to worry. I need to stop worrying and remember that my Father is the Captain. He has plans for me and will make sure I arrive safely!

Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."

Romans 8:28 "And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them."

Mercy & Grace

Mercy is not receiving what I deserve. If I am pulled over for speeding, I deserve to receive a traffic ticket. However, if the police officer lets me go with a warning he has shown me mercy.

Grace is getting what I have not worked for. On my birthday I received some very thoughtful presents from my children. I didn't stand up and tell them, "What can I do for you to earn these wonderful gifts?" No, they were gifts given out of grace.

God has shown me His mercy in that I do not get what I deserve - seperation from Him because of my sins. He has also shown me His grace by giving me what I could not possibly earn - His unfailing love and eternal life.

Titus 3:4-7 "When God our Saviour revealed His kindness and love, He saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Because of His grace He declared us righteous and gave us confidence that we will inherit life."
