The Call

Feeling empty? Feeling like you have no purpose? A call goes out to every person on earth. A call to leave the old ways behind and turn to Jesus. Act now, because this offer may not last forever. Don't let your heart be hardened or wait until it is too late. Listen to the voice of God now while it can still be heard.

Often the world views God as an angry God, looking for a reason to punish. But that isn't true at all! When we leave the old ways behind, we find mercy. We find generous forgiveness. Call on the name of Jesus now, while He is near. He loves to give people a purpose! An incredible offer that sounds too good to be true. But it is a real offer - don't pass it by.

Isaiah 55:6-7 "Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near. Let the wicked change their ways and banish the very thought of doing wrong. Let them turn to the Lord that he may have mercy on them. Yes, turn to our God, for he will forgive generously."

The Call; Part 2

The call has been given to anyone who will listen - even me. When I respond to the call, instead of anger or punishment, I find generous forgiveness and mercy. I find a relationship with my Creator. In this new relationship is healing and a purpose.

Living in true joy and peace will only come through new birth and new relationship. There is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away (Luke 15:7)! Where once there was separation from God, now new life begins!

Isaiah 55:12-13 "You will live in joy and peace. The mountains and hills will burst into song, and the trees of the field will clap their hands! Where once there were thorns, cypress trees will grow. Where nettles grew, myrtles will sprout up. These events will bring great honor to the Lord ’s name; they will be an everlasting sign of his power and love."

The Call; Part 3

Yesterday I wrote about everyone being called by God. Some people hear the call in their hearts but say to themselves, "You don't know what I've done! You don't know what a bad person I really am!" God does not think the way we do. He doesn't say, "Boy, I'd sure like to forgive you but that thing you did was pretty rotten!"

The word "justified" appears 37 times in the New King James version of the Bible. Justified literally means that our wrong deeds are remembered by God no more! My dad used to say, "Justified means exactly what it says - just if I'd never done it." We tend to rank our bad behavior; God says we are justified through the sacrifice of His Son Jesus on the cross. When I come to God asking for forgiveness, He can use me to do His work on earth. I find my purpose in life. And when I leave this earth, it gets even better!

Isaiah 55:8-11 "“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts. The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it."

Mercy

The other day I heard a great definition of mercy, "Compassion that results in action". Having compassion on someone, combined with an action to alleviate the situation. I, being fully human, tend to have a limit to how much mercy I will offer. God's heart is there is no limit to His mercy! This is difficult for me to understand. There is no limit to His mercy if I have a right relationship with Him.

Some of you who have been reading my posts have also heard me define mercy as not receiving what I deserve. This is also true. Think about this - mercy triumphs over judgement! This is the aspect of not getting what I deserve. I have received much mercy from God. This gives me the desire to show mercy to others. This is being a conduit for what has been already given to me. I have received much mercy, I want to show much mercy. God had mercy on me while I was still a sinner, so He sent his son to mend this rift between us - compassion, combined with action to alleviate the situation. Some of you reading my post need to receive this mercy from God. Others reading my post may be asked to extend mercy to someone God places in your path.

Titus 3:4-7; Hebrews 4:16 “When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior. Because of his grace he declared us righteous and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most."
