David

David had much to be thankful for. Saul, the previous king of Israel, had wasted about 10 years trying to kill David. But God delivered David from Saul's misplaced vengeance. Ultimately establishing David as the new king of Israel. But that's not all God accomplished through David. In fact, far too many accomplishments to cover in a single post. Even Israel's modern borders were drawn during David's reign.

God had such a close relationship with David, that He even called David a man after His own heart. Was David perfect? Not at all. In fact David also experienced despair while coming to grips with his many failures. My dad used to say it wasn't that David sinned, it was all about how quick David was to admit he had sinned and repent. By this David sets a great example for me. A man after God's own heart, He even promised David that the Messiah - Jesus - would arrive from David's descendants.

A lesson to be learned is that God has a plan for me. David knew how true this is. It was out of this grateful heart that he wrote Psalm 100, a Psalm of thanksgiving. If you want to read more about David's life and how God used him, a good place to start is 1 Chronicles and the Psalms.

Psalm 100:1-5 "Shout with joy to the LORD, all the earth! Worship the LORD with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy. Acknowledge that the LORD is God! He made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation."
